The Arts curriculum at Assumption includes visual, musical and theatrical arts and are all offered to many of the grades not only as part of their weekly art appreciation and practice but through the support of extra circular offerings before and after school.
Teachers utilize the Arts Attack curriculum as the foundation of our visual arts program. This is a fantastic program because it allows students to express themselves, through art, by providing the elements and principles of art and drawing in a developmental and sequential manner.
Kids Korus is an extra circular music group that is offered to all students in 3rd through 8th grade who love to sing. The Kids Korus students have a great time together learning songs and preparing to perform at various school and parish assemblies and religious celebrations throughout the school year.
The Band program at Assumption is offered through Gonzaga Preparatory School. Two levels of band are available twice a week. The basic band level for 5th grade is optional but required for all our students in 6th grade. Advanced band is optional for our 7th and 8th grade students who elect to continue with this program. Assumption students look forward to performing at our Christmas Concert and the Spring All- Diocesan Band concert.
Assumption hosts a Spring Art Show, featuring drawings and painting from our students ranging from Preschool through 8th grade. Students select their favorite art projects from the year to display for the school community. Classes visit the fair during the school day to appreciate each other’s creative expressions. A parent event is hosted in the evening allowing parents and grandparents an opportunity to admire our student’s artist abilities. This year’s event will take place on May 10th with the help of parent volunteers and our teaching staff.
Drama is taught with all class curriculums. Our seventh and 8th graders are additionally offered drama as an elective from our Junior High Langauge Arts teacher, Mrs Tayne. Mrs. Tayne has extensive background in the performing arts.
We also offer a theater experience to all our students through the Missoula Children’s Theatre. Missoula Children's Theatre Program is a gift to the school each year by our Home and School group. The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) instructors spend an entire week with our students preparing them for a two performances. The MCT is an amazing program because it not only introduces our students to the theatrical arts, but incorporates team work, leadership and problem solving into this week long activity.
