The Visual Arts program at Assumption is taught to the kindergarten through fifth grade classes.
It is also offered to our seventh and eighth graders as an elective course. This program is taught by Mrs. Salg who has a background in fine arts, including mixed media and photography. The Visual Arts class is designed to inspire all students to engage in many levels of creativity and self-expression. The program introduces students to art history and the elements of art and the principals of art and design. By exploring various projects utilizing different media and materials, students learn line, color, texture, value, space, shape, and form. Drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, mixed media, and sculpture are surveyed in our program.
In the spring, Assumption hosts a school-wide art show, featuring numerous projects from our
student body. Students will present their entire body of artwork from the year to display to the
school and parish community. Their work will be displayed showing the progression of the
students’ understanding of art and design. Parish members will visit the show during the
morning and school classes will visit throughout the school day to appreciate the creative
process, inspiring the love of the arts. A parent event in the evening allows family members the
opportunity to witness our students’ artistic endeavors. This year’s event will take place on
March 7, 2024, with the help of parent volunteers and our teaching staff. After the art show,
students will take home a portfolio of their work.
